September 11 attacks | Kayla Bergeron escaped 68 floor

“All of a sudden the building sort of lunged forward,” Bergeron recalled of that early morning. “A protection guard arrived to my flooring and explained, we are evacuating. You have to leave now. Then it felt like the full earth shook. Which is when we understood the second tower arrived down.”

From there, Bergeron reported it was sheer chaos.

“The stairwell was blocked and the lights went out,” she recalled. “We began to scream. We see a light-weight and we hear any individual, will have to have been on a bullhorn, stating if you can see the gentle, follow the mild. We uncovered this gentle and we arrived out on the facet of the constructing. A law enforcement officer tells me to operate. I turned all-around. Right here will come this enormous cloud, black, thick soot.”

Bergeron ran 16 blocks to police headquarters, the place she helped coordinate monitoring down survivors.

Stacy Edwards, director of Special Equestrians of Georgia, failed to wait to assistance.

Edwards explained she witnessed the instant Bergeron clicked with the horses.
